The Madawaska Art Shop buildings date back to the middle of the 19th century. The building on the left in the photo was at one time (1860) a bank, the vault, with it's two foot thick concrete and stone walls is one of seventeen rooms in the Madawaska Art Shop. The building next to it was known as the Buckley General Store, which functioned as a thriving business and a home for five generations of Buckleys. Both buildings and the link total nearly 8,000 sq. ft. of space.
The Madawaska Art Shop opened for business in the Bank Building in the late 1960's. It flourished as a result of its' unique offerings and beautiful art. In the late 1970's, the General Store Building was purchased and a 600 sq. ft. addition was added which connects the two heritage buildings and enables customers to travel between the buildings and its' many displays. Today, the 17 rooms of the Madawaska Art Shop include a six room Art Gallery; beautiful Giftware and Home Decor, Stained and Blown Glass; hand-crafted Pottery and Glassware; Hand turned Bowls and Vessels made from wooden burls; Metal Wall Art; Crate Design Bunkbeds; Pine furniture; lots of Jewellery; Casual Wear and Sleep Wear...
